LONDON — European stock markets were slightly down in midmorning trading on Monday, while retail and luxury stocks were uneven.
The FTSE 100 in London and the CAC 40 in Paris both fell 0.4 percent, to 5,874.29 and to 4,317.71 respectively. The DAX in Frankfurt was down 0.3 percent to 9,734.76, while the FTSE MIB in Milan was flat at 19,034.20.
The euro traded at $1.08, while the pound fetched $1.43, and the Swiss franc equaled $0.98 at 10:45 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Jimmy Choo, 2.9 percent to 1.21 pounds; Metro AG, 1.4 percent to 26.17 euros; Italia Independent Group, 2.2 percent to 20.05 euros, and Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, 0.9 percent to 63.75 Swiss francs.
Among the stocks that gained the most ground were Yoox Net-a-porter.com, 3.3 percent to 32.27 euros; Gemfields, 2.1 percent to 0.48 pounds; French Connection Group, 3.1 percent to 0.43 pounds, and Ted Baker, 1.4 percent to 26.78 pounds.
