LONDON — European stock markets were down in mid-morning trading, with the exception of the FTSE MIB in Milan, which advanced 0.2 percent to 23,841.56.

The FTSE 100 in London and the CAC 40 in Paris were both down 0.9 percent, to 7,042.23 and to 5,221.52 respectively, while the DAX in Frankfurt dipped 0.5 percent to 11,974.87.

The euro traded at $1.07, while the pound fetched $1.52, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.05 at 11:00 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the morning’s biggest fallers including, 2.6 percent to 0.74 pounds; Geox, 1.6 percent to 3.41 euros; Safilo Group, 1.5 percent to 13.83 euros; and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, 1.3 percent to 160.55 euros.

Among the few stocks that gained ground were Salvatore Ferragamo, 2.1 percent to 28.79 euros; French Connection Group, 1 percent to 0.43 pounds; and, 1 percent to 39.63 pounds.
