LONDON — European stock markets were uneven in early morning trading on Wednesday.
The FTSE MIB in Milan rose 1.4 percent to 16,891.42, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, up 1 percent to 10,657.64. The FTSE 100 in London dipped 0.1 percent to 6,815.91 while the CAC 40 in Paris was broadly flat at 4,451.40.
The euro traded at $1.11 while the pound fetched $1.30 and the Swiss franc, $1.01 at 9:10 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest gainers including French Connection; 1.6 percent to 0.49 pounds; Mulberry Group, 1.2 percent to 11.37 pounds, and Debenhams, 0.3 percent to 0.60 pounds.
Among the morning’s biggest fallers were Compagnie Financière Richemont and Koovs, 1.5 percent to 57.30 Swiss francs and to 0.65 pounds respectively. Sainsbury’s fell 0.7 percent to 2.41 pounds.
