LONDON — Europe’s major markets were down in mid-morning trading on Tuesday, with the FTSE 100 in London and the FTSE MIB in Milan leading the way.
The British and Italian markets each fell 0.3 percent, to 6771.10 and to 23,956.47 respectively.
The CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.2 percent to 5,130.74, and the DAX in Frankfurt 0.1 percent to 11,722.15.
The euro traded at $1.08, while the pound fetched $1.56, and the Swiss franc $1.04 at 10:30 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks put on an uneven performance, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Salvatore Ferragamo, 2.5 percent to 28.20 euros; Aeffe, 1.4 percent to 2.11 euros; and Hugo Boss, 1.6 percent to 107.08 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Luxottica Group, 1.3 percent to 65.85 euros; Safilo Group 1.9 percent to 12.24 euros; and Yoox Group, 0.8 percent to 30.64 euros.
