LONDON — European stock markets edged down in mid-morning trading on Monday, with the FTSE MIB in Milan leading the way.
The Italian market fell 2.2 percent to 19,075.83, followed by the FTSE 100 in London, 0.8 percent to 6,365.52, and the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.6 percent to 8,930.70. The CAC 40 in Paris was also down 0.6 percent to 4,105.61.
The euro traded at $1.27, while the pound fetched $1.61, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.05 at 11:15 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Geox, 2.7 percent to 2.48 euros; Unilever, 1 percent to 29.58 euros; and Hermès, 2.8 percent to 239 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Safilo Group, 2.7 percent to 10.27 euros; Yoox, 3.6 percent to 14.07 euros; and Gemfields, 3 percent to 0.49 pounds.
