LONDON — European stock markets lost ground in midmorning trading on Monday, with the CAC 40 in Paris leading the way.
The French market was down 0.8 percent to 4,382.84, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.7 percent to 9,726.85. The FTSE 100 in London and the FTSE MIB in Milan were both down 0.6 percent to 6,049.74 and 18,546.59, respectively.
The euro traded at $1.08, while the pound fetched $1.42 and the Swiss franc equaled $0.98 at 11:45 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Yoox Net-a-porter Group, 2.5 percent to 30.80 euros; Aeffe, 2.2 percent to 1.37 euros, and Safilo Group, 8.5 percent to 9.09 euros.
Among the stocks that gained ground were Salvatore Ferragamo, 1.9 percent to 21.18 euros; Metro AG, 1.7 percent to 26.41 euros, and Gemfields, 2.8 percent to 0.47 pounds.
