LONDON — European stock markets seesawed in midmorning trading on Wednesday, with Milan’s FTSE MIB the only one to make gains.

The Italian market was up 0.5 percent to 16,880.41, while the FTSE 100 in London was flat at 6,851.09. The DAX in Frankfurt was down 0.3 percent to 10,662.96, while the CAC 40 in Paris dipped 0.1 percent to 4,462.70.

The euro traded at $1.11, while the pound fetched $1.30 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.02 at 11:15 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest risers including, 3 percent to 0.82 pounds; Hugo Boss, 1.3 percent to 53.98 euros; Geox, 1.6 percent to 2.51 euros; Metro AG, 1.2 percent to 27.49 euros, and The Swatch Group, 2.6 percent to 51.95 Swiss francs.

Among the few stocks to lose ground were Joules, 1.5 percent to 1.63 pounds;, 1.6 percent to 47.23 pounds, and French Connection, 1.8 percent to 0.40 pounds.
