PARIS — European stock markets were on the upswing in midmorning trading on Wednesday, with the DAX in Frankfurt leading the way.
The German market was up 1.6 percent to 10,649.79, followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, 1.5 percent to 4,637.47. The FTSE 100 in London rose 1.4 percent to 6,168.54, while the FTSE MIB in Milan also advanced 1 percent to 21,282.11.
The euro traded at $1.1, while the pound fetched $1.5, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.00 at 11:20 a.m. CET.
Most retail and luxury stocks were also on the rise with the morning’s biggest gainers including Safilo Group, 3.7 percent to 10.67 euros; Aeffe S.p.A., 2.4 percent to 1.45 euros, and Pandora, 2.3 percent to 840 kronor.
Among the few stocks that lost ground were Ted Baker, 4.4 percent to 30.43 pounds; Jimmy Choo, 1.9 percent to 125.1 pounds, and Esprit, 1.6 percent to 8.07 pounds.
