LONDON — European stock markets gained modest ground in midmorning trading on Wednesday, with the DAX in Frankfurt leading the way.
The German market was up 0.9 percent to 10,926.07, followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.6 percent to 4,939.14. The FTSE 100 in London and FTSE MIB in Milan were both up 0.4 percent, to 6,300.94 and to 22,518.51 respectively.
The euro traded at $1.07, while the pound fetched $1.51, and the Swiss franc equaled $0.99 at 10:00 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Adidas, 3.4 percent to 91.17 euros; L’Oréal, 2.2 percent to 168.85 euros; Hugo Boss, 2.2 percent to 91.50 euros, and Gemfields, 2.1 percent to 0.46 pounds.
Among the few stocks that lost ground were Jimmy Choo, 2.3 percent to 1.52 pounds and French Connection, 4.2 percent to 0.34 pounds.
