LONDON — European stock markets were mostly down in morning trading on Monday.

The CAC 40 in Paris retreated 0.4 percent to 5,114.94, followed by the FTSE MIB in Milan, which fell 0.2 percent to 20,266.90.

The DAX in Frankfurt declined 0.1 percent to 12,217.29, while the FTSE 100 in London was up 1 percent to 7,351.35.

The euro traded at $1.05, while the pound fetched $1.23 at 10:30 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Koovs, down 1.9 percent to 0.46 pounds; followed by Debenhams, 1.5 percent to 0.53 pounds, and MySale Group, 1.3 percent to 1.07 pounds.

Among the stocks that gained ground was Marks & Spencer Group, up 1.6 percent to 3.42 pounds. Meanwhile, Moncler advanced 1.4 percent to 21.68 euros, and, 0.9 percent to 1.73 pounds.
