LONDON — Europe’s major markets were on the uptick in early afternoon trading on Friday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which was down 0.3 percent to 7,537.21.
The FTSE MIB in Milan rose 0.3 percent to 22,471.59, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.1 percent to 12,995.47. The CAC 40 in Paris was flat at 5,362.70.
The euro traded at $1.19, while the pound fetched $1.32 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.03 at 1:30 p.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the afternoon’s biggest gainers including Joules Group and Aeffe, which were both up 2.1 percent to 2.85 pounds and to 1.98 euros, respectively; Mulberry Group, 2.2 percent to 10.99 pounds, and Geox, 1.5 percent to 3.59 euros.
Among the stocks to lose the most ground were MySale Group, 1.3 percent to 1.19 pounds, and The Swatch Group, 0.7 percent to 75.40 Swiss francs.
