LONDON – Europe’s major markets were on the upswing in mid-morning trading on Thursday, with the CAC 40 in Paris leading the way.

The French market advanced 0.8 percent to 5,343.30, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.7 percent to 13,066.69, and the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.5 percent to 22,269.45. The FTSE 100 in London edged up 0.1 percent to 7,380.68.

The euro traded at $1.18, while the pound fetched $1.32 at 11:35 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest gainers including SuperDry parent SuperGroup, 2.2 percent to 19.61 pounds; J. Sainsbury, 1.7 percent to 2.28 pounds; Brunello Cucinelli, 1.4 percent to 26.93 euros; Inditex, 1.5 percent to 29.63 euros; Safilo Group, 3.6 percent to 4.50 euros, and, 4.4 percent to 0.24 pounds.

Among the few stocks that lost ground were French Connection, 3.9 percent to 0.43 pounds, and MySale Group, 3.4 percent to 1.12 pounds.
