LONDON – Europe’s stock markets edged down in early afternoon trading on Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 in London and the DAX in Frankfurt leading the way.
The British and German markets dipped 0.4 percent to 6,864.70 and to 11,238.41, respectively, followed by the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.3 percent to 21,925.62. The CAC 40 in Paris was flat at 4,868.87.
The euro traded at $1.12, while the pound fetched $1.54 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.04 at 12:20 p.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the biggest fallers including Yoox Group, 2 percent to 18.33 euros; Inditex, 2.4 percent to 27.51 euros; Salvatore Ferragamo, 1.5 percent to 26.94 euros, and MySale Group, 3.8 percent to 0.51 pounds.
Among the few stocks that gained ground were Gemfields, 3.2 percent to 0.49 pounds, and Boohoo.com, 5.4 percent to 0.25 pounds.
