LONDON — Europe’s major markets edged downward in mid-morning trading, with Milan’s FTSE MIB falling the most.
The Italian stock market tumbled 1.5 percent to 13,712.97, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt and the FTSE 100 in London, which each fell 0.4 percent. The DAX hit 5,403.79 while the FTSE 100 edged to 5,105.01.
The euro traded at $1.33, while the pound traded at $1.55 at 11:10 am CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with a few exceptions. The morning’s gainers included Beiersdorf, which rose 0.3 percent to 40.12 euros; Hugo Boss, which was up 0.1 percent to 59.61 euros; and Benetton Group, which climbed 0.1 percent to 3.12 euros.
The stocks that lost the most in mid-morning were Safilo Group, which fell 2 percent to 4.74 euros; Tod’s, which was down 2.1 percent to 65.50 euros; and Mulberry Group, which retreated 2.1 percent to 13.70 pounds.
