LONDON — Europe’s major markets made modest gains in mid-morning trading on Monday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which dipped 0.2 percent to 7,489.57.
The FTSE MIB in Milan led the upswing, climbing 0.4 percent to 22,762.46, followed by the CAC 40 in Paris and the DAX in Frankfurt, which were both up 0.1 percent to 5,497.45 and 13,223.91, respectively.
The euro traded at $1.16, while the pound fetched $1.31 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.00 at 12:05 p.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest fallers including MySale Group, down 1.3 percent to 1.17 pounds; Debenhams, 2.5 percent to 0.46 pounds; Hugo Boss, 1.2 percent to 77.25 euros, and Mulberry, 1.3 percent to 10.44 pounds.
Among the morning’s biggest gainers was Luxottica Group, up 1.7 percent to 49.20 euros; Safilo Group, 1.1 percent to 5.32 euros; and Koovs.com, 2.6 percent to 0.25 pounds.
