LONDON — European stock markets were down in midmorning trading on Friday, with the CAC 40 in Paris leading the way.
The French market dropped 0.7 percent to 4,289.28, followed by the FTSE 100 in London and the FTSE MIB in Milan, both of which were down 0.5 percent to 6,088.45 and to 17,839.23 respectively. The DAX in Frankfurt fell 0.4 percent to 9,813.10.
The euro traded at $1.14, while the pound fetched $1.45, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.04 at 10:25 am CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Mulberry Group, 5 percent to 9.51 pounds; Salvatore Ferragamo, 2.4 percent to 19.25 euros; French Connection Group, 3.5 percent to 0.38 pounds, and Unilever, 1.1 percent to 38.46 euros.
Among the few gainers were Jimmy Choo, 1.3 percent to 1.23 pounds, and Aeffe, 1.45 percent to 1.09 euros.
