LONDON — Europe’s stock markets made modest gains in midmorning trading on Tuesday, with the FTSE 100 in London leading the way.

The London market was up 0.5 percent to 7,240.19; followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.3 percent to 5,283.89, and the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.2 percent to 20,644.90. The DAX in Frankfurt climbed 0.1 percent to 12,448.36.

The euro traded at $1.09, while the pound fetched $1.29 at 11:30 a.m. CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest gainers including Britain’s Bonmarché Group, which climbed 11 percent to 1.10 pounds; Geox, 1.1 percent to 2.51 euros; Jimmy Choo, 1.7 percent to 1.93 pounds, and SuperGroup, parent of Superdry, 1.4 percent to 16.17 pounds.

Among the biggest fallers were Gemfields, 1.4 percent to 0.41 pounds; French Connection, 2.3 percent to 0.37 pounds, and Salvatore Ferragamo, 1.2 percent to 29.07 euros.
