LONDON – Europe’s major markets were in retreat in mid-morning trading on Wednesday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which was broadly flat at 7,345.00.
The FTSE MIB in Milan was down 0.5 percent to 21,386.41, followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.2 percent to 5,385.91, and the DAX in Frankfurt, 0.1 percent to 12,731.25.
The euro traded at $1.09, while the pound fetched $1.29 at 11:05 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Moncler, 2 percent to 21.83 euros; Tod’s, 1.9 percent to 62.00 euros, and Adidas, 1.1 percent to 181.85 euros.
Among the few stocks that climbed were Marks & Spencer Group, 1.2 percent to 3.85 pounds; high-street retailer Next, 2.4 percent to 44.34 pounds, and Primark parent, Associated British Foods, 2.1 percent to 28.68 pounds.
