Halloween is busy season for Glamsquad and chief executive officer Alexandra Wilkis Wilson says book your appointments early if you want one. The Glamsquad professionals are offering spooky, sultry and chic looks in addition to their regular lovely options.
“Typically, our busiest day is Saturday, like any salon. Specific days like Halloween, New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day are really popular and we staff accordingly,” said Wilson.
The company is a growing online beauty site that allows individuals to book their own personal glam squad. Customers choose a look and then book the beauty professional to come to their home. Currently the company is based in New York, Los Angeles and Miami with plans to expand to more cities.
All services include an additional 20 percent gratuity that goes straight to the beauty professional. The services range in price from a blowout for $50 to $75 for makeup.
The company says it has little churn among its workers and Wilson said the professionals have told her they make more money working with Glam Squad.
The company has big plans for 2016 like expanding to Washington DC, Dallas and Chicago. “We also have the potential of creating our own Glamsquad product line,” said Wilson.
Wilson has a masters degree from Harvard business school and cofounded the flash sale company Gilt Group. With that pedigree it’s not surprising she was able to raise capital for this startup that was just launched in 2014. They raised $2 million in seed round, $7 million in Series A and $15 million in Series B bringing the total to $24 million. The capital will be used to grow the team, increase marketing and improve technology services
“Weddings have been incredibly important to the business and our growth. Starting in May until right about now. We service the bride, bridal party, guests of the wedding. We can service a lot of the women to get ready at the same time, which is harder to do in a salon,” said Wilson.
