Riding a positive wave from Wall Street, Asian shares in Hong Kong and Tokyo ended slightly higher Thursday.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng inched up 0.3 percent to end at 20,266 while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.2 percent to finish at 15,750. Shanghai’s SSE was the outlier — it fell 1.4 percent to end at 3,008.
Fast Retailing was one of the worst performers for the day, shedding 3.6 percent to end at 30,490 yen. On Thursday, the corporate parent of Uniqlo reported a steep drop in second-quarter earnings and cut its full-year profit forecasts for the second time.
It was also a difficult day for Chow Tai Fook, which fell 2.2 percent to finish at 4.94 Hong Kong dollars. Similarly, Matsuya shed 1.7 percent to end at 853 yen.
