At Gottschalk’s, coats, Pendleton shirts and fleece were some top sellers. In Junior’s, recycled and reconstructed men’s wear jackets are selling at a pace of 2,000 per week at $19.95 a piece.
At the Neiman Marcus Orient Express, customers shopping the railcars have picked up at least three full-length sable coats retailing from about $75,000 to $100,000. Leather accessories and fragrances also have done well.
Saks Fifth Avenue has sold over 20,000 bottles of Jean Paul Gaultier’s new fragrance priced between $52 and $150. Saks has also sold over 25,000 private-label chenille sweaters for $58 to $98, over 50,000 marino layering shells priced from $59.90 to $128, and over 40,000 units of cashmere priced from $98 to $248.
Bloomingdale’s sold out of a shipment of 30,000 Barbie dolls dressed in Nicole Miller outfits. The chain is reordering thousands more. Last week, in commemoration of Barbie’s 35th birthday, Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship set up a Barbie retrospective on the main floor. Hot sellers in the fragrance department are CK One and DK for Men.
At Barneys New York, jewelry and outerwear are selling briskly. Leather and suede coats are hard to keep in stock.
