TROY, Mich. — Kmart Corp. said it has agreed to pay the State of California $985,000 to settle a complaint regarding the accuracy of its price scanners.
As part of the settlement, Kmart is required to staff all its stores in California with full-time “pricing coordinators,” who will insure the accuracy of the scanners at checkout.
In a prepared statement, Kmart said it will also post signs at all of its California stores, stating that the company will take $3 off any item that is scanned at a higher-than-listed price. If the item retails for less than $3, Kmart added, the customer will receive it at no charge.
