NEW YORK — Le Tigre has wooed Jenny La Fata away from Sean by Sean Combs.

After less than a year as the vice president of design for Sean Combs’ women’s collection, La Fata is moving on to Le Tigre as fashion director of the women’s and men’s collections, a new post.

“Le Tigre is more my style,” said La Fata, adding that her aim is to update the retro brand’s fits and silhouettes, starting with the holiday collection. “I want to give it more of an elitist fit and a luxe, modern edge. I also want to launch new categories like dresses and bottoms.”

Today is La Fata’s first day on the job, but she claimed to have “severed ties” with Sean by Sean Combs a few weeks ago. “It was not a great fit anymore,” she said.

A representative for Sean by Sean Combs said a replacement has not been named. Combs was unavailable for comment.

Prior to joining Sean by Sean Combs last April, La Fata designed the contemporary collection LaRok from its inception in October 2004.

“Her work at LaRok speaks for itself,” said Ryan O’Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of Le Tigre. “It translates well. While it was contemporary, it had a men’s assimilation to it. She’s going to make the classics modern.”

La Fata said she’s been sifting through Le Tigre’s archives and is eager to get to work. “We’re going to make it sexy and cool and basically just give it a more contemporary feeling.”
