WASHINGTON — London Fog Corp. is moving its corporate headquarters from Eldersburg, Md., to Darien, Conn.

According to Arnold Cohen, who joined the firm in September as chairman and chief executive officer, the move is to position the company closer to both customers and suppliers, based in the New York area.

A company spokesman said that it expects to sign a letter of intent for a 50,000-square foot site in Darien early next week.

The company will base 200 employees at the building within three years, including a headquarters staff and merchandising and design specialists. Additional employees are expected to be added as the company expands through future acquisitions.

London Fog currently has 650 employees at its Eldersburg site, and estimated that only 15 to 20 of them would be moved to Connecticut. The rest will remain at the Eldersburg facility, which will continue to function as London Fog’s international operational headquarters, handling distribution, customer service, technical services, data processing, human resources and other key operations. London Fog also will retain sales offices in New York.

The move also reflects the company’s growth plans, the spokesman said. As noted, London Fog announced on Jan. 12 that it will merge with the parent company of Pacific Trail, Inc., the Seattle-based outwear designer and distributor.
