Charming Shoppes Inc. Thursday promoted Anthony Romano, its acting chief executive officer, to president and ceo of the plus-size specialty retailer. He has also been named a director of the company.
Romano, a veteran of Ann Taylor, joined the company in February 2009 as executive vice president, global sourcing and business transformation and was promoted to chief operating officer nine months later. In October, he was named acting ceo following the resignation of James Fogarty as ceo.
“Over the last several months, we have conducted a broad ceo candidate search, including both external and internal candidates,” said Michael Goldstein, Charming Shoppes’ chairman. “Tony’s extensive experience managing and working in the many facets of apparel retail operations and especially his knowledge and familiarity with Charming Shoppes in its current business turnaround mode were key considerations in his appointment.”
The retailer also expanded Brian Woolf’s role to group president of Lane Bryant, Lane Bryant Outlet and Cacique. Marla Anderson, president of Lane Bryant Outlet, will now report to Woolf, who was previously president of Lane Bryant with responsibility for Lane Bryant and Cacique.
Woolf, a former Caché Inc. chairman and ceo, will continue to report to Romano.
