Sears Holdings Corp. said it has no information that it has been the victim of a data breach, despite a report that the Secret Service is investigating a possible attack on the company’s systems.

A spokesman for the Hoffman Estates, Il.-based company said, “There have been rumors and reports throughout the retail industry of security incidents at various retailers, and we are actively reviewing our systems to determine if we have been a victim of a breach.   We have found no information based on our review of our systems to date indicating a breach.”

Bloomberg reported that the U.S. Secret Service is probing a possible security breach at the retailer, citing an individual familiar the investigation. The supposed investigation comes after a series of cyber attacks at various chains, including Neiman Marcus and Target Corp.

Shares of Sears Holdings hit an intraday low of $42.01, but rebounded to $43.97 at 2:45 p.m., about 45 minutes after the initial report about possible Secret Service activity.
