NEW YORK — TPR Holdings said today that it has purchased a controlling interest in Cargo Cosmetics, the indie color brand founded in 1996 by Hana Zalzal.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“We are very excited to add Cargo Cosmetics to the TPR portfolio, marking our entry into the color cosmetics category with such a strong brand name,” Brian Robinson, president of TPR, said in a statement. “Cargo is a leading brand trusted by professional makeup artists and real women. We look forward to once again bringing the types of groundbreaking formulas and first-to-market technologies that put the brand on the map to consumers worldwide.”
Robinson added that Zalzal would stay with the company as creative director. Cargo products are carried at retail doors including Sephora inside J.C. Penney and Macy’s.
“I am truly excited to align with a company like TPR that is able to provide valuable resources to further expand Cargo, while still maintaining the brand’s heritage, integrity and my creative vision,” Zalzal said.
TPR’s other brands include skin care brand Freeze 24/7, Oscar Blandi Hair Care and the fragrance licenses of Nicole Richie and Reem Acra.
