IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER: Japanese lingerie brand Wacoal is teaming with Parisian art collective Wise Women on an art project aiming to celebrate personal representations of beauty.
Curated by Maroussia Rebecq of Andrea Crews and art critic Margaux Barthélémy, both Wise Women members, six women artists will produce work on the theme “Capture Beauty.”
The project questions traditional depictions of the female form, tracking its evolution throughout art history and offering a different perception of beauty through an exclusively female gaze.
Each month until International Women’s Day on March 8, Wacoal will be releasing the images produced in collaboration with the Wise Women collective.
Photographer Camille Vivier kicks off the project for October with a black-and-white picture depicting the nude female form. Work by Inès Longevial, Apolonia Sokol, Célia Nkala, Leslie David and Alice Guittard will be next on the cards.
The six artworks will be on sale at art space La Villa Rose from March 8 to 16. Proceeds will finance Wise Women’s program to support women artists.
