There’s still plenty of money on the sidelines, particularly from private equity firms, which McKinsey & Co. estimated to be sitting on as much as $100 billion. That not only led to a number of big deals late last year, such as the planned acquisition of J. Crew Group, but an overheated market in merger and acquisition speculation that is likely to continue in the new year.
