PARIS — Adidas AG on Wednesday named top executives to head sales and retail at its Adidas and Reebok brands.

Roland Auschel becomes the activewear group’s chief sales officer, effective July 1, while Michael Stanier took up the post of chief retail officer on May 15.

As revealed during its annual general meeting earlier this month, Adidas is to close its regional headquarters in Europe and Asia. The two new posts are intended to reinforce coordination between the global headquarters and local markets.

Stanier joins Adidas from Gap, and has also worked in retail at Marks & Spencer and Timberland. His team is charged with maximizing growth, profitability and the consumer experience of Adidas’ retail business, which generated more than 1.8 billion euros, or $2.65 billion, in 2008 and driving it toward the goal of becoming one of the top 250 global retailers.

Adidas said Auschel, who is head of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, would direct “commercial strategies, balanced channel approaches and strong local trade development.” Managing directors in national markets will report to Auschel, while directors of Adidas America Inc., Greater China and Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States region, due to their strategic and financial importance, will report directly to Erich Stamminger, president of the Adidas brand.

Auschel and Stanier will both report directly to Stamminger. For Reebok, both will also report to Uli Becker, the brand’s president.
