General Atlantic is bulking up its retail ranks.

The investor, which has a stake in Tory Burch, hired Andrew Crawford away from Advent International to head its retail and consumer business. He is a managing director based in New York.

Crawford spent 11 years at Advent where he worked on the company’s investment in Lululemon Athletica Inc. and also served on the boards of Charlotte Russe, Bojangles and Five Below.

In a statement, Crawford said he appreciated General Atlantic’s “long-term, value-added approach” and that the company would be “very attractive for retail and consumer companies looking to expand beyond their native borders.”

William Ford, chief executive officer of General Atlantic, noted that Jeff Leng, who led the company’s entry into the consumer sector with investments in Zhong Sheng, Sun Art and Meituan would continue to be active in the sector, working with Crawford “on new consumer retail investment opportunities in Asia and other emerging markets.”
