LONDON – British online retailer Asos has appointed Helen Ashton as its new group chief financial officer and to the main board of the company, the firm said Tuesday.

Ashton replaces Nick Beighton in the role, after he was promoted to group chief operating officer in October.

Ashton, 42, will take up her role on Sept. 1 and reports to Asos’ group chief executive officer Nick Robertson. She currently holds the job of coo at Arrow Global, a debt purchasing and management company.

Ashton joined Arrow Global in 2014, when it acquired debt purchaser Capquest, for which she had been ceo. Before that, she had held a number of senior management positions at firms including Barclaycard and Lloyds Banking Group, and roles at Walmart’s Asda Group and Great Universal Stores.

Robertson noted that Ashton “brings an unusual combination of deep financial experience, combined with her track record in consumer-facing and retail businesses. Helen has also been involved in significant change-management situations and has demonstrated great leadership capability,” he said.

Roberston added that Ashton’s appointment “frees up Nick Beighton to focus completely on his operational responsibilities.”
