Beth Grumbacher has been elected to the board of The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., the York, Pa.-based department store chain, expanding the number of directors to 10.
Grumbacher has worked at a number of apparel and retail businesses, has held an ownership interest in a small retail operation and most recently was involved in the design and manufacture of a girls’ apparel collection.
She is the daughter of Tim Grumbacher, chairman and strategic initiatives officer of Bon-Ton and, with a 21.2 percent stake in the company, its largest individual shareholder.
“Beth has been involved with retail throughout her career,” said Tim Grumbacher. “We welcome Beth’s insight as we continue to execute our business strategies for profitable growth and increased shareholder value.”
Beth Grumbacher is considered an inside, rather than independent, director. The board now has seven independent directors and three insiders — Tim Grumbacher, Beth Grumbacher and Kathryn Bufano, who in August succeeded Brendan Hoffman as president and chief executive officer.
Bon-Ton operates 273 stores in 26 states under nameplates including Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Elder-Beerman and Younkers.
