More than a year after becoming the former president of Guess Inc., Carlos Alberini has become a former director of the firm as well.
Alberini resigned as president and chief operating officer of the Los Angeles-based denim and sportswear company in May 2010 to become co-chief executive officer of Restoration Hardware Inc. At the time of his departure, he agreed to remain on Guess’ board for another two years.
However, in a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday, Guess said Alberini has stepped down from the board as “a result of increasing time requirements” of the co-ceo position.
Alberini spent more than 10 years at Guess, joining the firm during a period when its wholesale operations as well as its fashion impact were waning. He is often credited with providing much of the operational and strategic direction as it began its transformation from a wholesale model to one heavily dependent on its own retail network and set out to reinvigorate its fashion appeal and become more global in scope.
