ISTANBUL — Boyner Holding chief executive officer Cem Boyner received a World Leadership Award at the 6th annual United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) event here recently, for policies enhancing democracy in the workplace and promoting gender equality in public.
Boyner Group is the largest non-food retail operator in Turkey, known for its Beymen luxury chain as well as finance, healthcare, publishing and tourism businesses.
Among 676 firms endorsing WEP across the globe, 7 of the 17 firms that are from Turkey belong to Boyner Group. Creating specific targets to improve gender equality in all of his companies, Boyner achieved 50 percent female representation at Boyner’s top management positions.
“In Turkey, gender equality is one of the main issues that lies ahead for our socio-economic advancement,” Boyner said, urging people to “take action and spread a culture of democracy in both working and political spheres.”
