CLAIRE’S TAPS FIELDING: Claire’s Stores Inc. on Wednesday named James D. Fielding chief executive officer, confirming a WWD report the same day.

Fielding, formerly president of Disney Stores Worldwide, will join the $1.5 billion low-to-moderate-priced jewelry and accessories chain on June 18, succeeding Eugene Kahn, who resigned in January. Fielding is charged with lifting sales and profits, further tapping expansion opportunities and rebalancing the mix to recapture additional jewelry business.

Claire’s Stores targets girls and women ages three to 27, and are heavily stocked with trendy earrings, necklaces, bracelets, purses, hair accessories and fashion accessories. The company also operates the Icing chain, which targets women ages 19 to 28 with higher prices than Claire’s. Claire’s was bought by Apollo Management in 2007 for $3.1 billion.

Prior to his latest role, Fielding was executive vice president of global retail sales and marketing for Disney Consumer Products, general merchandise manager for the coed division of Lands’ End, and a merchant at J. Peterman, Gap and Dayton Hudson.
