Pliner said Tuesday, “I will continue to be a shareholder and will be fully supportive of the company and the brand as I begin this next chapter of my life.”
The company said that the “new creative endeavors” could involve establishing new companies, or “designing, consulting and public speaking at events for brands outside the footwear industry.”
Pliner founded his company in 1989, which established itself as a luxury footwear brand. In 2011, Pliner sold a majority stake to private equity firm Castanea Partners.
The company said that Pliner’s wife Lisa, also a footwear designer, will leave as well. Her signature line of luxury footwear, known for its distinctive green sole, was introduced in 2005. The two then followed with their signature collection Lisa for Donald J Pliner. The latter is now known as Donald and Lisa Signature.
