Margot Fooshee, J. Crew Group Inc.’s senior vice president of marketing and public relations, is leaving the company at the end of August to spend more time with her family and relocate from Manhattan to Bedford, N.Y.

“She’s been a great partner since the early days, ” said Millard “Mickey” Drexler, J. Crew’s chairman and chief executive officer. “She’ll be missed, but we’re putting the word out now and networking” to find a successor. He said the company has already begun receiving inquiries and has decided to conduct its own search without using a headhunter.

Fooshee was hired by Drexler in June 2003, about three months after he joined J. Crew, as part of his original leadership team. She grew the marketing and public relations functions from one to 24 people, added a separate team for the Madewell division, and was a member of the corporation’s operating committee. Fooshee was instrumental in the growth and positioning of the business, including the launch of the Madewell, Crewcuts and J. Crew wedding collections. She also developed advertising and editorial campaigns including “In Good Company” for men’s, the ballet flat campaign for women’s, “Jenna’s Picks” and “Jack Knows Best.” Before J. Crew, Fooshee ran creative services for Lucky magazine.
