Frank Tworecke, who ended an eight-year tenure as president of the Sportswear Group of The Warnaco Group Inc. last month, has been appointed to the board of Cherokee Inc., the brand management and licensing firm located in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Tworecke fills a directorial vacancy created by the retirement of Dave Mullen, the former retail executive who’d served on Cherokee’s board since 2000.
Tworecke was president and chief operating officer of The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. for five years before joining Warnaco in 2004 and was president and chief operating office of Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. for three years beginning in 1996. His résumé includes stints at Lord & Taylor and Federated Department Stores Inc. He also serves as a director of Grafton-Fraser, a Canadian men’s wear retailer.
“Frank holds nearly four decades of senior-level retail and apparel management experience with world-class companies,” said Jess Ravich, chairman of Cherokee. “His strong apparel and marketing background, combined with his proven ability to drive strategic initiatives for leading retail organizations, will be an invaluable asset to the board.
Tworecke commented, “The Cherokee Group has an enormous opportunity to expand its direct-to-retail business model as it continues to broaden its global reach.”
Cherokee owns the Cherokee, Sideout and Carole Little brands and licenses retailers for their use worldwide.
