Elizabeth Arden Inc. has named George Cleary as president of global fragrances, effective March 14.

Cleary, who has more than 20 years of experience in beauty and personal care, was most recently chief executive officer of Illuminage, a beauty device and skin-care brand that is a venture between Unilever and Syneron Medical. Prior to joining Illuminage, Cleary held several senior-level positions at Coty Inc., including president, Americas, where he had full strategic and operational responsibility of the $1.2 billion business that spanned multiple beauty categories and channels.

Cleary replaces Joel Ronkin, who stepped down in November, in the position.

“Given George’s successful track record, and his direct, relevant experience in the beauty business, I expect George to make a big impact on our global fragrance business,” said E. Scott Beattie, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Elizabeth Arden Inc., adding that Cleary has a track record of profitably growing brand portfolios through organic growth and acquisition. “With George’s appointment, the leadership transformation to a brand-led structure within Elizabeth Arden is complete, and our collective focus is on revenue acceleration and margin expansion.”

Cleary started his career at Nestlé and moved into the personal-care and beauty sector, where he held several sales and general management positions with Johnson & Johnson before joining Coty. During his tenure at Coty, Cleary was responsible for fragrance and nail-color brand innovation, acquisitions and the marketing and sales teams within his business unit.
