Ahmed Hamdi has joined Smart Apparel U.S. as vice president of design and merchandising for the woven shirt division.
He succeeds Trudi Roach, who has left the firm, and reports to Bob Skinner, chief executive officer of Smart Apparel U.S.
Hamdi was most recently with Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. as senior designer of Izod men’s woven shirts following relocation to New York. Prior to that, he was based in Hong Kong where he served as creative director for Epic Designers and senior designer for Romax Apparel Ltd.
“Ahmed has developed an impressive background in the design field with over 16 years of experience,” Skinner said. “His broad range of technical skills, eye for detail and keen sense of men’s fashion will be a great asset to our business.”
Smart Apparel is a subsidiary of Youngor Group Ltd., based in Ningbo, China, and is the licensee for Nautica, Andrew Marc and Marc New York by Andrew Marc tailored clothing and dress shirts and Perry Ellis Portfolio tailored clothing.
