Hearst Magazine’s House Beautiful has appointed Sophie Donelson as editor in chief.
She starts her new gig on Feb. 2 and reports to Newell Turner, editorial director of the Hearst Design Group, which includes Elle Décor and Veranda.
She replaces Turner, who held the job as editor in chief for House Beautiful since 2010, in conjunction with his position as editorial director of Hearst’s shelter magazines.
Most recently, Donelson served as brand director for Cricket’s Circle, an e-commerce site for expecting parents. Prior to that, she was editorial director at C.Wonder, and she has held senior editorial positions at Elle Décor, Blueprint and City magazines before going freelance and writing for Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, Curbed.com and EditorAtLarge.com.
“I’ve known Sophie for many years and have always felt that she understands the power and importance of great design and decorating,” Turner said. “She is creative, extremely talented, and expert at curating experiences for readers.”
