PARIS — French fashion industry executive Isabelle Guichot has been made an officer in France’s National Order of Merit.
The award was handed to Guichot, currently chief executive officer of Maje, by Pierre Gattaz, a business figure who heads electronics company Radiall and presides over lobby group Business Europe at the Paris headquarters of the French contemporary fashion brand.
Guichot has headed brands at luxury behemoths Kering and Compagnie Financière Richemont including Sergio Rossi shoes and high-end jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels. She was ceo of Balenciaga for nearly a decade, preceding current ceo Cédric Charbit.
Guichot took over from Sylvie Colin at Maje in September 2017. The label belongs to SMCP Group, and Guichot was recruited as part of a push to bolster business abroad. At the time of her appointment, SMCP ceo Daniel Lalonde said choosing Guichot, with her experience in the luxury sector, reflected the company’s ambition to “spread Parisian chic across the world.”
