James McArthur has joined the board of directors of Benetton Group.
McArthur has held several top roles during his career in the fashion, luxury and retail industries. He has served, at separate times, as chief executive officer of Harrods, Balenciaga and Anya Hindmarch, and, at Gucci Group from 2000 to 2007, was the executive vice president overseeing the Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen brands after the group invested in those British labels. During his tenure at Gucci he also managed the acquisitions of other companies, including Bottega Veneta and Boucheron.
Recently, McArthur became a board member of Detsky Mir, Russia’s largest children’s retailer, which listed on the Moscow Stock Exchange last year.
Last November, Alessandro Benetton, who took the reins of his family’s company in April 2012 succeeding his father Luciano Benetton, exited the board of the Benetton Group.
Alessandro Benetton currently heads private equity fund 21 Partners, which he founded in 1992 and was then called 21 Investimenti. The fund currently controls the Philippe Model footwear label.
