LONDON — Alan Scott has been named creative director at Johnstons of Elgin, the luxury Scottish cashmere manufacturer.
With a career spanning over 27 years, Scott has previously held design director roles at Loro Piana, Trussardi, Vestimenta and Donna Karan, where he was part of the team launching the label’s men’s wear division.
He was also program leader of the fashion communication course at Sunderland University and an external examiner at London’s Central Saint Martins design school. Most recently, Scott worked as a freelance consultant and stylist for brands including Joules, Queene and Belle and Barbour.
Scott will assume his new role with immediate effect and report to chief executive officer Simon Cotton.
The family owned Johnstons of Elgin, established in 1797, is one of the few remaining vertical mills in the U.K. working with raw cashmere and fine woolen fibers.
In addition to providing fabrics for designers such as E. Tautz, the company has also recently opened a London flagship store on New Bond street. Scott said he aims to develop further the brand’s position in the luxury market, with plans to continue expanding the label’s accessories and home interiors categories.
