PARIS — Karla Otto is taking a step back from day-to-day operations at the public relations firm and branding agency she founded 38 years ago to become its chairwoman, spearheading its global strategy.
Alexander Werz, the agency’s executive director in charge of driving its international expansion over the past nine years, and Isabelle Chouvet, cofounder of K2 — the Asia-based events management firm Karla Otto merged with in 2017 to form a holding company called The Independents — have been named its co-chief executive officers, managing its operations in tandem.
“I met Karla 20 years ago crossing over at various clients and projects — and then fully connected when she asked me to join Karla Otto,” Werz said. “Since then, it has been a fantastic journey and I am extremely proud to have been given the opportunity to grow and continue this unique vision in a time when shifts in brand experiences and communications are accelerating and innovation is becoming more important.”
Chouvet retains her role as ceo of The Independents, which also owns Middle Eastern agency The Code.
“The agency is uniquely positioned to lead the industry at a moment where traditional models are being disrupted,” she stated. “Alexander and I are very complementary in our expertise and given the challenges ahead of us. We felt that a shared leadership of the agency would lead to achieving our vision for Karla Otto to evolve and to continue to lead and excel.”
