PARIS — Makeup artist Max Delorme died recently, his agent Malena Holcomb, of L’Atelier NYC, confirmed to WWD on Thursday.
The official cause of death has yet to be communicated. However, sources described his passing as a suicide.
The French makeup artist began his career in the theater, then worked as an assistant to François Nars and Tom Pecheux.
Delorme collaborated with designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and photographers Helmut Newton and Nan Goldin, plus brands including Givenchy and Rykiel Homme. Charlotte Rampling and Emmanuelle Béart were among the actresses with whom he worked.
Since 2000, Delorme also was the makeup artist in France for Gemey-Maybelline, the L’Oréal-owned brand.
“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Max Delorme,” said the label in a statement, which added that over the course of its collaboration, “we developed with him a strong relationship built on trust and complicity. He greatly assisted in the development of the brand in France and inspired us throughout many of our product launches. His immense talent and professionalism will be dearly missed by the makeup, beauty and fashion world. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
A partner and three children survive Delorme. His funeral arrangements are pending.
