Native has named Michael Belgue creative director and vice president of marketing.

Belgue, who previously served as sales director for men’s and women’s footwear brand John Fluevog, will report to Native’s president Darren Hawrish.

Belgue, who will be based in the brand’s global headquarters in Vancouver, is tasked with setting the tone and identity for Native, which makes lightweight footwear for men and women.

“I see an incredible opportunity in front of me at Native,” Belgue said. “Not only does the brand excel in footwear but it also sets the bar high as a fully realized global design company.”

Prior to working at John Fluevog, Belgue, who replaces Mark Gainor, cofounded the Paris-based Hobo Media along with its corresponding art and fashion journal Hobo Magazine.

Native footwear was founded in 2009 by Damian Van Zyll de Jong and Scott Hawthorn. In 2013, Hawthorn and a group of investors acquired 100 percent of the business. Hawthorn serves as chief executive officer.
