Think Pink.

That was the message echoed to about 250 attendees at the Pratt Institute Art of Packaging Award Gala celebrating Mary Kay’s contributions to the industry.

Emceed by Deborah Norville of “Inside Edition” and honoring Sheryl Adkins-Green, Pratt Institute raised $300,000 at its annual dinner on Wednesday for the 25th anniversary of the Marc Rosen Scholarship and Education Fund for Packaging by Design.

“I will confess, Debbie Norville of Dalton, Georgia County, sold Mary Kay,” said Norville. “And the only thing anyone ever bought from me was a lipstick, and I’ll be damned if I can remember what that shade was.”

Adkins-Green, chief marketing officer for Mary Kay Inc., accepted the Art of Packaging Award on behalf of the brand. “At Mary Kay we believe true beauty begins on the inside,” she said. “And, as Marc says, ‘Design is not just about making things look pretty. It’s about creating a sense of innovation and quality that helps the consumer understand the product within.’”

Meanwhile, Marc Rosen was presented with a citation from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to celebrate Rosen’s 25 years of support and emerging packaging designers.

“I personally love the companies that have a great history and Mary Kay has this amazing history,” Rosen told WWD. “Pink is a color that you tend to think is a bit old-fashioned, but their packaging is so contemporary and they’ve done such a beautiful job with it.”
