It’s a new position at Haddad, a New York-based privately held children’s apparel and accessories licensee for several leading brands including Nike, Converse, Jordan and Levi’s. Smith will oversee all design while focusing on global expansion. He began his career in the executive training program of the former Burdines chain in Florida, and rose up the merchants’ ranks, taking jobs of increasing responsibility at different divisions of Macy’s prior to its centralization. Ultimately he became general merchandise manager at Macy’s, where he supervised several categories including juniors, dresses, coats, swimwear, kids and intimates.
The rising Macy’s star took his career in a different direction when he became an executive vice president at Victoria’s Secret Direct. After VS, Smith decided to take some personal time, teaching and traveling. “I hit every continent,” Smith said. After the hiatus, he joined Haddad.
